About Scotland Thinks

My name is Rory Scothorne, and I'm a student of History and Politics at Edinburgh University. In those precious hours when I can escape from my otherwise eternal immersion in books about dead statesmen and dying ideas, I write about politics and music.

Scotland Thinks was set up in May 2011 (sound familiar?) as a repository for various intellectual meanderings on Scottish and UK politics, and as a means of articulating and developing my own views. I have a particular interest in broadening the scope of the independence debate beyond the decaying political parties and philosophies of the 20th century.

Many of the pieces on here will also make it onto the edifying pages of National Collective, an open and non-partisan online space for discussion and debate on independence. I am also an insufferable music snob, and (usually) a regular contributor to the wonderful independent music and culture e-zine God Is In The TV. In whatever time I have left, I report for Edinburgh student paper The Journal on national and local politics.

If you're reading anything on here and think that I've missed something, feel like discussing things further, or simply want to agree or disagree, please comment.

If you'd like to get in touch, email me at roryscothorne@gmail.com - Feedback is always very welcome, and I'll do my best to reply.

Thanks for reading Scotland Thinks.

You're welcome to comment anonymously, but it's always a shame when somebody writes something really interesting and I have no idea who you are! So please leave a name - and if it's something you feel like you have a degree of expertise in, leave an email and I might just see if we can develop things further.
